Have you been ready to add a sentiment to a card and the die you want to use is too big/long? Well here is how to make a die cut smaller to fit exactly what you want for your card creation.
I was making the By My Side card seen above and the Stylish Shapes banner die was too long for the greeting I had chosen to use. So I trimmed it down using the same die to create the exact size to fit my greeting. Check out the following photos to see how it is done.
Stamp your greeting and place the selected die at one end of the greeting, as in the photo below.
Run the die through your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine. You now have a die cut piece with the greeting aligned to one end.
Now reposition the die to have the right hand end of the die located where you want the die to cut. So your greeting is perfectly positioned within the die cut piece when completed. The terrific thing about using the Stylish Shapes dies for this method is the die sits itself into the stitched holes perfectly, making alignment really easy. If not using a die with stitching add a piece of washi tape to hold the die in place.
Run through your die cutting machine and there you have it. A shortened version of the die that fits your greeting perfectly!
A great technique to remember and it gives you so much more versatility from your dies. The same technique can be used to create a longer die cut. In this situation you can not wind the second run through your die cutting machine all the way through. Stop half way, otherwise you will cut your sentiment in half!
I had a wonderful time creating these three cards using the By My side stamp set to share with my newsletter readers. Do you get my newsletters? If you would like to, go to the Sign Up box on this page and pop in your email address. I will send you a free technique tutorial as a thankyou.
I combined using the stamp set with the 6×6 In Color 2022-2024, & In Color 2021-2023 papers. More usage of the Stylish Shapes dies. I love this die set as it has so many selections and gives the option to layer as there are at least a couple of larger sizes of each die shape. A must for your die collection. The Decorative Circle punch was used to punch out the girl image.
I had a lot of fun making these cards with the cute By My Side stamp set. You will find it on page 52 of the Annual Catalogue. A lovely set with some lovely sentiments.
I hope you give this method of creating shorter die cuts a try. It will make it so much easier for you when finding a die to suit the sentiment you have chosen for your cards. If you would like to learn another tip from me, check out this post on my blog.
Happy Stamping!
