Heat embossing with decorative masks? Yes you can! Here is my how to heat emboss with decorative masks quick explanation. It is very easy and gives such an amazing result as you can see on my card above.
You will need :-
Stampin’ Up! Decorative Mask, Plenty of Patterns used here
Card stock in colour of choice
removable tape / washi tape for fixing the mask in place
Embossing buddy
Embossing powder, gold used for this card
Swipe over your card stock with an embossing buddy or talcum powder sack to prevent finger marks or stray embossing powder sticking to your card. I wish we still sold these at Stampin’Up! they are vital for embossing projects.
Select the mask/stencil you want to emboss taking into consideration how well it will come up when embossed. Place it over your chosen card stock, Basic Black was my choice to make the gold embossing stand out.
Fix the mask in place over your card stock with washi tape/ removable tape. Mask off any parts of the stencil that may be near an edge.
Using the sponge dauber, make sure it is a clean one with no coloured ink on it, pick up Versamark ink. Then start daubing the ink onto the open areas of the mask/stencil. Work quickly as the ink will dry out if a large stencil you are embossing. Cover all the exposed areas of the mask.
Remove the mask and quickly sprinkle over embossing powder. Tap off excess. Reapply more embossing powder if areas are not fully covered. Using a fine paint brush gently whisk away any stray grains of embossing powder.
Heat set with your heat tool.
Done! Now cut to size and create your card.
I dry embossed the background mat of my card wit the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder. The die for the sentiment is from Scalloped Contours and the sentiment itself is from Slim Sayings.
So there you go, you now know how the heat emboss with decorative masks. ! You can see just how easy this technique is to create! As I mentioned your Versamark ink will dry so don’t emboss a huge area at any one time. It will also dry out faster on a hot day or in a very warm room. So stick with smaller designs as you get the feel for doing this technique.
I still have trouble calling these masks to me they are stencils! What feels natural to you to call this product?
