I wish we had fireflies in Victoria, instead I can dream by creating Lighting the Way card ideas. Did you know a firefly is actually a beetle? I just googled to learn more about them and that is where I found out that they are in fact a beetle and yes they do occur in Australia but only north from Kangaroo Valley in NSW up to Queensland and the Northern Territory. Looks like one day a trip may have to be planned to be in those states at the start of spring into summer to hopefully see them.
In the meantime I will get by with creating cards using the Lighting the Way stamps and dies. The bundle first appeared in the 2023 January – April Mini Catalogue. This catalogue retires May 1. My first card made using this bundle was the one below. It was inspired by the sample in the upcoming catalogue. It also allowed me to create a card using some of the new colours appearing in the colour refresh in the catalogue.
I’ve used Lost Lagoon and Berry Burst cardstock along with Pretty Peacock and Lost Lagoon inks. To give the impression of distance in the stamped leaves do some stamping off. This is when you stamp the image a second and third time without reinking the stamp.
The lantern was die cut from Distressed Gold Specialty paper. This pretty paper is lovely for die cutting or adding highlights to a card as you will see in my next card idea. Can you see the detail created on the fireflies by the dies in the card below and above? The embossed detail adds more realism to the vellum die cut wings. It adds a lovely touch of detail to the finished piece. I added Wink of Stella to the vellum wings to add to the translucency of the wings.
